Should You Rent or Buy a Violin When Starting Lessons?

Hi, this is Manoela Wunder from Los Angeles Violin Teacher.

A question I often get is whether it's better to rent or buy when starting violin.

Renting is great because it's inexpensive and allows students to size up as they grow. When you buy an instrument, especially as a beginner or a growing child, you may quickly outgrow it — and then you're stuck with something that doesn’t fit anymore.

When you rent, repairs and adjustments are typically covered, making it lower maintenance and less stress for the parent or student.

However, if you’re confident that you or your child is going to stick with it, purchasing can be worthwhile — especially if it's a good quality beginner violin that holds its value.

Ultimately, it depends on your situation and goals. Either way, the important thing is to get started and enjoy the learning process!
